Halt the Unjust Slaughter of 350 Bears in Retaliatory Act

Halt the Unjust Slaughter of 350 Bears in Retaliatory Act
The Issue
Please rescind the decision to kill 350 brown bears after an alleged fatal bite incident. Bear incidents are rare, and are usually connected to either direct feeding or poor management of attractants. Killing the bears, (who will be replaced by other animals), doesn’t remove the attractants. A much better approach would be to invest in bear proof bins, reduce food waste, educate people about bears, and develop a coexistence strategy, which would include humane hazing and occasional relocation.
Bears have been part of our ecosystem since time immemorial, maintaining a harmonious relationship with humans and nature. It is a personally disheartening fact that today, we are facing the massacre of 350 innocent bears following a human-related fatality. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx27lexnwdxo.amp
Bears rarely kill people, and the act of retaliatory killing doesn't effectively tackle the root causes of the situation. Email President Robert Fico and ask him to stop the slaughter!
In fact, the bears killed will only be replaced by other animals, as the attractant is not removed. Studies conducted by the National Park Services (US) show that bear-proof bins and bans on feeding them prove more effective in reducing human-bear conflicts than killing them (Source: National Parks Services, USA). Therefore, the proposed massacre is not only sad and unnecessary, it is also ineffective and shortsighted.
The voiceless bears urgently need us to step in and speak on their behalf. We need to implore the government to revise its decision and explore safer, non-lethal options such as imposing stricter regulations on waste disposal and proper educational programs about living with wildlife. We can coexist; we just need to make sure we do it right, for them and for us. Please, let's prevent the unjust slaughter of these magnificent creatures, sign this petition to safeguard their population.
