Halt the Temple Way Housing Project to Prevent Additional Traffic Hazards

The Issue

I am a concerned resident of Benchmark Avenue in Fremont. The grim shadow of worry and fear has seized many in our neighborhood due to recent tragic incidents on Peralta Boulevard involving cyclists. We have witnessed two deaths caused by cars crashing into cyclists, hinting at the perilous reality of an emerging safety hazard.

The Temple Way housing project, slated for development on Peralta, looms as a potential exacerbation of the already existing traffic nightmare. The project is expected to bring additional cars on the road, broadening the scope of danger to pedestrians and cyclists alike, many of whom are small children journeying to and from school. It is our fear that this project is not just a traffic but a life-threatening hazard waiting to transpire.

We believe there are alternative ways to enhance our neighborhood. Instead of adding to traffic woes, the district could consider building a park, which would not only alleviate traffic but also promote healthy living and community bonding.

Reports suggest that traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists are on the rise (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2018), and we must take significant steps to counteract this trend. The Temple Way housing project stands a chance of turning our neighborhood into another statistic. Please join us in voicing our opposition to this project. Your signature can help ensure the safety of our community.
