Halt the Single Fiscal Intermediary (FI) Shift in New York State
The Issue
Why This Petition Matters
As a provider of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) in New York State, I’m really worried about the plan to switch to a Single Statewide Fiscal Intermediary (SFI). This change could take away your freedom to choose a care providers, which is super important for the well-being and independence of many disabled people. If this happens, it could lead to service disruptions, loss of care, and lower quality services.
The Problem
Switching to a single SFI means that all services would be managed by one organization. Right now, we have many local Fiscal Intermediaries (FIs) that understand our needs. Losing these local providers means we won’t have the ability to choose someone who really gets us. This one-size-fits-all approach could create a situation where there’s no competition, leading to delays in care and not enough attention to the different needs of disabled people and people falling through the cracks!
The Consequences of the Single SFI
If this single SFI plan goes through, many people might experience interruptions or reductions in their services. This could really hurt their quality of life. Transitioning over 250,000 CDPAP consumers from more than 600 current providers to just one could lead to confusion, delays, and poorer care. Disabled New Yorkers deserve better!
Why Choice Matters
Research shows that having the freedom to choose healthcare providers is essential for maintaining dignity and a good quality of life. Stories from consumers show that being able to choose means services can be personalized to fit their unique needs. Limiting this choice can create stress and uncertainty for people who are already facing challenges because of their disabilities.
Evidence of Support and Collective Action
Many advocacy groups, disability rights organizations, and public figures support keeping consumer choice and maintaining service quality. Our goal is to get 100,000 signatures to show New York lawmakers that we are united in protecting the rights of disabled individuals.
