Halt the Sale of Ferguson Forestry Land in North Grenville

The Issue

The Ferguson Forestry is more than just a plot of land in North Grenville, it's a jewel that has been cherished by our community for generations. As a resident of Kemptville, ON, Canada, I have seen firsthand the beauty and importance of this forest. It is not only an ecological treasure but also a place where families gather to connect with nature and each other.

The proposed sale of the 13 acres of municipal owned agricultural zoned land, that the Ferguson Forest Centre stewards threatens to disrupt the delicate balance between development and conservation that we've worked so hard to maintain. Moreover, it sets a dangerous precedent for future decisions regarding designated agricultural lands.

These 13 acres that the Ferguson Forest Centre used for nursery purposes, can be reforested (in keeping with the Mission of the Ferguson Forest Centre), and is vital for our environment.  Reforestation of this land will act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 emissions which helps combat climate change (Source: Natural Resources Canada). Additionally, they provide habitat for countless species and contribute to biodiversity.

We must remember that once lost, this agricultural land cannot be replaced. Their value extends beyond any monetary gain from their sale; they are part of our heritage and should be preserved for future generations.

Let us stand together against the sale & rezoning of 13 acres of municipal owned agricultural land. Let us protect this jewel in North Grenville so that it continues to shine brightly for years to come. Please sign this petition today!
