Halt the Rezoning of 7100 Ada Boulevard Commercial and Apartment Building

The Issue

As a dedicated resident of Virginia Park, I am deeply disturbed by the upcoming amendment that threatens to alter a significant parcel of our community – the site located at 7100 Ada Boulevard. It’s currently designated as a two-storey building housing Child Care Services, but plans are underway to have it rezoned to Residential Medium density (RM) and 8,800 square feet space.

This building is legally described under UF Plan 8722543 and its demolition is scheduled once the application is approved at the city council public hearing on September 9. There are serious implications tied to this rezoning, notably the potential impact on both the environment and the community services that many of us rely on. With the removal of this to build a vertically incompatible 8 storey building  we lose a valuable source of space, risking the safety and wellbeing of our community’s members.

Under this plan, our environment risks substantial damage. Declaring an appeal against the bylaw is a course of action that we need to consider, but first, we must raise awareness about the endangerment of Virginia Park's future vitality due to these proposed changes. It is our duty to protect our neighborhood and its residents from these actions that do not take our wellbeing into account.

Further attention and opposition to this rezoning are needed to stop it. We call upon our community’s people power to unite and combat this ill-considered plan. Stand with us against the rezoning of 7100 Ada Boulevard. Protect the integrity of our neighborhood; protect Virginia Park. Please sign this petition to show your opposition and help to keep our community intact. If you’ve been given the recent updates and notifications they were available here on the rezoning website for the city here and for the attached documents as the city planner and administration supports this bylaw 20931 in response to the developer of this project.   Thank you for sharing your comments on this upcoming public engagement and for anyone interested the link to send a message to the city or to speak at the meeting please see the link here for more information.
