Halt the Radical Redesign of Primary School Education and Protect Teaching Assistant Positions
The Issue
As a deeply concerned parent in Norfolk, UK, specifically Wells-next-the sea, I am deeply alarmed by the proposed radical redesign of our Primary School Education system by The Wensum Trust. This plan includes, but is not restricted to, a significant cull of Teaching Assistant positions - roles that are vital to our children's education and future success.
Teaching Assistants play an integral part in our education system. They provide essential support to Teachers, help manage classroom activities, and most importantly, they offer individual attention to students who may struggle in a standard learning environment. Their role is not just supportive but transformative for many children.
According to data from the Department for Education (DfE), there were 263,000 full-time equivalent teaching assistants in England's state-funded schools as of November 2020. These figures highlight how integral these roles are within our school systems.
The proposed changes threaten this invaluable resource within our schools. It puts at risk not only the jobs of these dedicated professionals but also threatens the quality of education that we can offer all children in Norfolk.
Children’s education is indeed our country’s future; therefore it is paramount that we protect those who contribute significantly towards it - Our Teaching Assistants.
Wensum Trust we, the parents, urge you to reconsider this drastic measure and instead look at alternative, creative solutions into improving our current educational structure rather than dismantling it further.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving quality primary school education and protecting teaching assistant positions for the sake of all children's futures within The Wensum Trust Primary Schools.
