Halt the Proposed Parking Charge Increases in Cirencester by Cotswold District Council

Halt the Proposed Parking Charge Increases in Cirencester by Cotswold District Council
The Issue
As a concerned resident of Cirencester, I am deeply troubled by the proposed increase in parking charges set to take effect from April 1st, 2024. This includes the introduction of charges on Sundays - a day traditionally free of such costs. Our town is home to numerous businesses and local amenities such as our beloved Church that are already struggling to remain viable due to dwindling numbers.
The proposed increase in parking charges is not just an inconvenience for residents; it poses a significant threat to our local economy. High parking fees discourage visitors and locals alike from frequenting town centre businesses, further exacerbating their financial struggles.
According to data from The British Parking Association, high parking fees have been linked with decreased footfall in town centres across the UK (source: British Parking Association). We fear that this could be our reality if these changes go ahead.
Our plea is simple: we urge Cotswold District Council to reconsider their plan. Instead of implementing policies that may lead us towards an empty town centre, let's work together on strategies that encourage growth and prosperity for all who live and work here.
Please join us in urging CDC not only to halt these increases but also consider more sustainable ways of managing our town's resources without burdening its residents unduly or jeopardising its future.
