As a parent whose child has immensely benefited from the School Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) clinics, I am raising my voice today to plead for their continuity. I was overwhelmed before, doubting my abilities to handle my child's disruptive behavior. With the guidance and immediate feedback provided by expert therapists at the PCIT clinic, I saw a significant change in his behavior and our bond strengthened. This therapy helped break a damaging cycle, and now my son's successful integration in school and a peaceful home environment are testimonials of its effectiveness.

Untreated severe disruptive, aggressive and destructive behaviour in children leads to devastating outcomes: family dysfunction, violence, academic underachievement, psychiatric and physical illnesses, harmful substance use, criminality, and financial difficulties. These issues not only derail individual lives but also cost society over $20 billion annually.

PCIT is a proven model of therapy, supported by empirical evidence showing it reduces children's behavior problems, enhances their social skills, and improves parent-child interaction. In fact, PCIT is more effective than any other treatment, including pharmacological interventions, for any known psychological condition. A closure of these clinics would rob countless families of these crucial services that can greatly change the course of a child's future. 

In times when societies are grappling with increasing mental health problems among the young, PCIT clinics serve as an invaluable, accessible resource for families who need it the most.

We cannot turn a blind eye to the distress such closures would cause; we must champion keeping these clinics open to continue serving our communities effectively.
