Hi all

Many many thanks to our new sharers and our continued supporters.

Please keep sharing the petition as research has shown that the more someone sees a petition, the more likely they are to sign.

As always, you can contact us for more information or to get more involved at:

cemeteries4all@yahoo.com

We'll try to keep it fairly brief today being Sunday, but we wanted to make you aware of some exciting news as well as addressing claims of misinformation.

We don't want to count our chickens before they are hatched but we may have made a very important ally who can provide vital evidence and a kind of impartial view which just happens to support our views - to be revealed in full on 8th August at the council meeting! We are withholding this information for now to protect their identity during what has proven to be an emotional time for some with some (we feel) very unhelpful at times abusive comments and we do not wish them to be a recipient to this.

If you want to get involved in the council meeting feel free to contact us for information cemeteries4all@yahoo.com or keep your eye on the council webpage which should be update with further details on 30/07/2024 it can be found here:

https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=139&MId=7281

If you do wish to get involved in the meeting you will have only a short time to organise this and send in information so it might be an idea to prepare earlier but this is up to you.

Now to address the misinformation claims directed at us from the other petition re the Scotsman article all links are provided below this discussion.

Please also remember you can vote for whether or not you want a ban on dogs in cemeteries - whilst not binding in anyway it would be good if the votes also showed your (our supporters) views on this.

It should be noted that the poll gives no indication as to numbers of voters it may be very small numbers which don't reflect much, such as only 20 people voting. Furthermore, as the poll is based on an unbalanced report (in our opinion) we don't see it as an imprtial vote.

In our last update we told you of this article and stated "please note they did not speak to us at all and it is a very one sided report".

The other petition has stated we have misinformed you on this stating "The Scotsman did not speak to us at all either. They lifted all the text directly from our petition, as they did with yours - therefore, it is not one sided, it is impartial."

We never once mentioned whether or not they were interviewed, we commented only on our lack of involvement which is entirely true.

Re the onesidedness we were actually referring to the fact that the article focussed on their argument and only gave us a brief mention. They had 397 words whilst we had 81. The council had 106 words which is also more than us. Therefore we see this as a onesided report where one side has almost 5 times the amount of coverage, we also do not see this as impartial. If we are wrong in this we apologise but we understand for balance and an impartial view to be achieved both sides should have an equal hearing.
