The Issue

I am a resident of Saddle River, Bergen County, NJ and for me, this battle is personal. Animals, like us, have the right to live without fear, to enjoy the environment they were born into, and most importantly, to live. The deer of our beautiful town have done no wrong, yet they are often seen as nothing more than trophies or targets for sport. It deeply affects me to see these peaceful creatures mercilessly hunted down.

In 2020, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife reported that over 50,000 deer were killed in controlled hunts. This statistic raises serious questions on the ethical stance undertaken by our society.

I firmly believe that we should coexist with wildlife and not decimate it for personal satisfaction or sport. After all, hunting results in a plethora of adverse effects such as damaging the natural food chain and interfering with the evolutionary development of species. Instead of inflicting harm, we should focus on finding more humane solutions to mitigate deer overpopulation, if that is indeed a problem. Conceivably, through measures such as the application of fertility controls.

I urge you all to help stop deer hunting in Bergen County, NJ. We must stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Please sign this petition if you too believe in the rights of these innocent creatures. Stand for animal rights. Stand for compassion. Stand for coexistence.
