The safety of our neighborhoods, children, and downtown businesses in Lincoln, CA, is under threat due to The Gathering Inn project. As a Lincoln citizen, this matter deeply concerns me and should worry every resident in our town.

The Gathering Inn project aims to promote homelessness in our downtown area, eliminating the sense of security we have enjoyed for so long. According to a 2021 report from the National Alliance to End Homelessness, having a high concentration of homeless individuals in one area can lead to numerous societal issues including elevated crime rates and public health concerns (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2021). Though the intent to help underprivileged residents is noble, we believe there are better locations and ways to provide such aid without jeopardizing our downtown businesses' and community's safety.

This is not about denying help to those in need. This is about asking city officials to reassess housing strategies that could create a major threat to the safety of our neighborhoods and the hearts of our children who are growing up here. We must protect our town from turning into one that we no longer recognize or feel safe in.
