In the heart of this family-oriented Pheasant Run residential area, located in Bakersfield, CA, our community life thrives. Down the block rests Columbia Elementary School, nestled among the houses where lots of small children live and play freely. It’s these streets where parents and their children – residents of Pheasant Run – should feel safe.

However, there is a plan to establish a sober living home within our community, which stands to challenge the safety and peace we have enjoyed. Bringing such an establishment into a residential area, particularly one as family-centric as ours, presents potential issues that cannot be ignored. We highly respect the work that sober living homes do and acknowledge the importance of such services in our society, but we believe that they should be appropriately located in non-residential areas.

We stand together in expressing our concerns for this proposed new establishment. Therefore, we call upon the relevant authorities, including our local city government, to reconsider the zoning permissions for sober living homes in the Pheasant Run neighborhood.
