Halt the Delta Conveyance Project to Protect Native Wildlife

Halt the Delta Conveyance Project to Protect Native Wildlife
The Issue
I am a resident of California, deeply concerned about the potential environmental impact of the proposed Delta Conveyance Project. This initiative threatens to disrupt our precious ecosystems, taking away habitat from native wildlife such as critically endangered salmonids and migratory waterfowl. Furthermore, it risks diminishing a critical wetlands habitat that is vital for biodiversity.
The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is home to more than 750 species of plants and animals (source: California Department of Water Resources), many of which are already under threat due to climate change and human activities. The delta conveyance project could exacerbate these threats by altering water flows and habitats.
We already lost Delta Smelt to improper care for this critical watershed, as the CDFW failed to find them in their trawls for the 6th year in a row. According to UC Davis, 45% of salmonids, fish including Chinook Salmon and Steelhead, will be extinct in the next 50 years. Robbing them of critical habitat will only expedite this process.
Moreover, this project could have far-reaching implications for Californians who rely on the delta for their livelihoods or recreational activities, as there is no benefit to those who live in the area from this project. It's not just about preserving nature; it's about preserving our way of life.
We must prioritize sustainable solutions that protect our environment while meeting our water needs. We urge decision-makers to reconsider this project in light of its potential impacts on wildlife and local communities.
Please join us in calling for a halt to the Delta Conveyance Project. Your signature can make a difference in protecting California’s unique ecosystems and way of life. Immediate action is required and your signature can stop this harmful project in its track.
