Halt the Construction of the proposed new Footbridge in front of Our Homes' on Sandy Lane

The Issue

My neighbours and I live opposite a woodland full of wildlife, for example woodpeckers, owls, bee and many other birds and other wildlife, we recently discovered shocking news - plans for a footbridge right outside our homes, over the railway lines. This encroachment is not just an attack on our privacy, it's also a direct attack to the thriving wildlife that would driven from there homes with the construction of this footbridge with the noise and activitie happening (wild animals dont like there homes being disturbed)Prestatyn now only has very few places left for wildlife to be able to thrive can we really afford to lose this one....Also the risk of bringing even more anti-social behaviour to the whole community is high. With the building of this new footbridge that would mean there would be 3 bridges within 0.8miles of each other...

It's important to note that footbridges are typically associated with increased noise, litter, and disturbances throughout the day and night. To add to this, studies carried out by the Urban Ecology Research Laboratory have found that construction activities can lead to a decline in wildlife populations, both in the short and long term (Source: Urban Ecology Research Laboratory).

We understand that public transportation improvements are generally a positive thing, but this mustn't come at the expense of residents' peace and wellbeing, nor at the cost of our local wildlife. We firmly believe there must be other alternatives - places where a footbridge could prove beneficial rather than disruptive.

We ask you to recognize our right to enjoy our homes undisturbed, and the need to preserve our local wildlife. Please join us in our fight, and sign this petition to stop the construction of a footbridge over our homes' railway lines.

1- the increase in noise and light pollution - while I welcome and appreciate the increase in rail services I strongly object to the noise and light pollution we will create if the proposed footbridge structure is built - are we in line with trying to decrease our carbon footprint.

2- the new bridge would be so highly elevated that it will facilitate users to have access to view inside the houses and elderly residents dwellings along this street - this is an intrusion of privacy as the residents will be constantly overlooked by bridge users.

3- this structure is both ugly and unsightly and will devalue the properties in close proximity to the bridge. It will have a huge visible impact on the local area taking in mind that just a few hundred metres the other side of the railway we already have an ugly unwelcome bridge structure

4- the disturbance to habitats living in the proposed area is alarming - and unlawful as it breaches preservation law. The wildlife in this area including bats, birds, foxes and squirrels - butterflies and bees.
All protected species .

5- the trees in this area all have a tpo on them and the proposed area will therefore necessitate chopping some of these trees down - I was informed that the trees that are intended to be cut down will not come under the tpo but this cannot be possible due to the structure and size and therefore the trees will be hewn on the piece of proposed land - it also opens the avenue for further proposed construction along side this one because if one can do it why not another  - again chopping these trees is unlawful as it is against preservation laws

6- this bridge will only serve a handful of people who wish to access the Morfas and is ridiculously costly considering the few it will benefit.
A few rambling groups, dog walkers and school children
The school children would walk any way and would use gas works lane no problem,  as would the ramblers considering they are all capable walkers therefore a disabled long sloping access bridge would not be required. They are all capable of walking around and therefore would not require a crossing. Let’s face it, it isn’t much further and they are out for a walk anyway.

7- parking will become a huge issue in Sandy lane if this bridge is built as town users will park here to walk over to town to avoid the catastrophic traffic on the bridge and this will increase users to Sandy lane area as they will park there instead of town and train users will park in Sandy lane too because they can park all day for free!! The car park is too small that’s currently there for train users This I know will create a huge problem and this has not been considered at all!

8- the level of antisocial behaviour will increase due to this footbridge making a easy escape route and will become a rat run for crime. This isn't just going to affect people on sandy lane but the wider community and with our police force stretched to the limit this will only make it harder from them...

9-the road on sandy lane is fast moving with vehicles who don't stick to the speed limit very often cars speed down sandy lane easily reaching 60mph+

A better proposal is to build a separate footbridge crossing along side the existing traffic bridge into town  as this is frequented the most and is the most dangerous path to walk( see bridge at the ffrith area and rhyl twynywdd a similar idea)

There are many users of this area far more than to the morfas and the traffic on the bridge poses a larger threat to life for a larger number of people - you could also have a diverted section of this bridge leading to the morfas and therefore this option would facilitate better usage for all local users both shoppers and morfa walkers alike. It would not over look any local houses either. I was told that a structure like this would cost more money but this is not the case as the material would be significantly less as the structure would be smaller - as the existing path off Sandy lane would act as the start of the bridge and therefore already in place then a bridge adjacent to the traffic bridge could be built  with an extension of the path the other side using the land on the bank of home bargains with a small sloping section leading off this to the morfas

This ticks all the boxes

It would not disturb any of the wildlife and no trees would be required to be chopped down and it wouldn't be over looking residents homes
