Dear Neighbours and Friends of New Toronto,

We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to sign our petition opposing a homeless shelter at 66 Third Street. Your actions have gained us the attention of our city councillor, our MP and our MPP.

As great as this sounds, we are not passed the hurdle yet. We ask that you please sign this new petition that doesn't just focus on a single address, but instead calls on both the City and the Province to implement real, province-wide protections for our most vulnerable citizens.

It has become so clear that this issue is not unique to just one street. The city will be building more shelters to address the homelessness crisis. We need to ensure everyone has a roof over their heads. We also need to ensure it is done responsibly and ensures the safety of all vulnerable individuals -- this includes children, seniors and unhoused folks. We cannot prioritize the needs of one vulnerable group while sacrificing another. That is why we’re focusing our new petition on protections that will benefit communities in all of Ontario, while still addressing the concerns that first brought us together.

We Need You Now to sign a new Petition - here is the link.

https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/rethink-shelter-locations

This new petition urges our leaders to enforce stricter guidelines around shelter placement near schools, daycares, and seniors’ residences by creating a safety buffer of 500 meters to protect children and seniors.

By shifting our focus from opposing one shelter to building a safer, more thoughtful system, we can help shape policies that benefit every neighbourhood — not just our own.

We are not turning our backs on those in need. We are making sure solutions are safe, balanced, and fair for everyone.

If you’ve already signed the first petition, we hope you’ll take this next step with us. Together, we can advocate for smarter decisions and stronger protections across our city and beyond.

For those of you who may not know - The City is hosting a VIRTUAL TOWN HALL on April 15th from 7pm-8:30pm. You MUST pre-register by going to

www.toronto.ca/66Third - or you can call or email Amber Morley's office for a QR code  416-397-9273  or Public Progress at 647-946-8710

Thank you for standing up for your community. Let’s keep working toward a solution that works for everyone.

With thanks,
New Toronto Initiative
