It's Here...  VOTING DAY...

The New Toronto Initiative is a non-partisan advocacy group dedicated to ensuring that our community is heard. With VOTING DAY HERE  -  We have repeatedly asked the candidates and  this is what we know about the candidates’ position on the proposed 80-person “Emergency Shelter” site at 66 Third Street:

Christine Hogarth (PC Party), has drafted a letter addressing concerns, has advocated for an in-person public meeting, and has committed to tabling our petition in the Provincial Legislature to enforce increased distances between shelters and other vulnerable populations including schools, daycares, playgrounds, senior housing and long term care facilities.  She was the first to act with the creation of this important letter.

Lee Fairclough (Liberal Party) has acknowledged community concerns about the shelter’s location but has not provided a clear stance on whether or not she supports the shelter at 66 Third Street.

Rozhen Asrani (Ontario NDP) recognizes that community members have concerns. She says: "We know that we need shelter space and we know that encampments and homelessness are a significant problem in this area".

Sean McClocklin (Green Party) has not provided an official statement on this issue.

This race is razor-thin. If stopping the shelter is important to you, now is the time to act. Research the candidates, ask questions, and vote.

Your vote shapes the future of our neighbourhood—make it count!
