Halt the closure of Thornton Main Street

The Issue

We call on Network Rail to immediately halt the planned bridge works that would close Main Street, Thornton to all vehicles for a period of 14 months.

We further call on Fife Council to rescind the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order that has been authorised to enable this closure.

No works of this scale should proceed without full and transparent impact assessments on how the closure will affect the local community - including the severe consequences for local businesses - and without a thorough exploration of all alternative options that could avoid cutting off access to the south end of the village and the route to Kirkcaldy for over a year.

The community must be fully consulted before any decision of this magnitude is allowed to progress.
