The Issue

As a committed member of our community, I am writing to express my significant concerns regarding the proposed development of 297 town homes in our already densely populated region. This proposal extends beyond a simple matter of inconvenience; it fundamentally affects the quality of life for residents who deeply value the safety and tranquility of our living environment. We are not merely statistics within a planning grid, but individuals with legitimate concerns that merit consideration from the developers whose decisions will profoundly influence our daily lives.
Moreover, the addition of this development is poised to exacerbate our existing traffic challenges. Our roadways are currently strained, and introducing such a substantial number of new residences will undoubtedly prolong commute times, elevate stress levels, and heighten the risk of traffic incidents. Research from the American Automobile Association indicates that increased traffic density correlates with a rise in traffic-related fatalities, underscoring the seriousness of this issue.
The pace and scale of this proposed development represent more than an inconvenience—they pose a tangible threat to both property and personal safety. Higher population density increases the likelihood of significant accidents, and the potential for exacerbated flooding presents a critical risk to our community’s well-being and accessibility. A pertinent example occurred during Hurricane Irma on September 17, 2017, when flooding from Sampson Creek rendered Sandy Creek Parkway impassable for 24 hours. The addition of 297 town homes at the proposed site would likely intensify such vulnerabilities, placing both property and lives at greater risk.
In light of these considerations, we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents over unrestrained expansion. I respectfully urge you to reconsider the proposed construction of 297 town homes in our area. I invite you to join me in supporting this petition to halt this development, ensuring that our community remains a safe, functional, and pleasant place for all who call it home. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.
