Thanks to your voices, dedication, and turnout, we successfully stopped the rezoning of the second phase of the massive development near the Veazey Connector. This is a major win for our community, and it proves what we can accomplish when we stand together.
But make no mistake — the fight isn’t over.
The developer’s attorney made it clear they may appeal the decision or even sue the Board of Commissioners, citing the original rezoning as justification. That original decision — and any that follow — rests on a deeply flawed foundation: the 2023 Comprehensive Plan.
Although the county may have complied with the bare minimum legal requirements, the 2023 Plan lacks democratic legitimacy.
- Of Greene County’s 20,700+ residents, fewer than 50 people attended the key public workshop — that’s just 0.2%.
- Only 308 people filled out the survey that helped shape the entire plan — meaning 98.5% of the county had no voice in decisions that are now being used to justify widespread rezoning.
- The county claims it did outreach. The numbers show otherwise. This wasn't meaningful engagement — it was a check-the-box process. And now, developers are using that plan to change the character of our rural community forever.
We must stay vigilant.
👉 We are now organizing efforts to challenge the legitimacy of the 2023 Comprehensive Plan itself and push for a new, transparent, and truly participatory process.
What You Can Do Now:
Gather evidence: If you received developer mailers, pressure offers, or have concerns about water, roads, emergency access, etc., document it.
Spread the word: Many residents still don’t know what’s happening. Share this petition and updates with friends and neighbors.
Help us prepare: If you have a background in law, planning, or organizing — we need you.
Stay engaged: We’ll need everyone’s help again if the developer appeals or if a lawsuit is filed.
We’re not just trying to stop one neighborhood — we’re standing up for the future of Greene County. A future that honors the people who live here now, not just those looking to profit from it.
Let’s keep Greene County green — together.
