Petition updateHalt Implementation of Residential Rental License (RRL) in the City of BramptonResidential License is unethical and unnecessary, and conflict with province vision

Rental Licensing presents a significant conflict with Ontario's Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022.

The Residential Rentals does not fall within the business definition outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25 Section 150. This raises concerns about the city's authority to issue a business license for rental units when such units do not align with the Municipal Act's business definition. Such actions would constitute a breach of the Municipal Act.

As of 17 Jan 2024, city has updated RRL site with following major changes:

  1. The requirement for a Level 1 Criminal Check has been removed from the application requirement.
  2. Penalties are subject to Council approval and will be made public.

As Quoted on City's Website, which was removed quickly.

Is a rental licence required if I have a registered ARU/second unit and why is the same information required?

Yes, some of the same documents are required as part of the licensing application process to verify no modifications have been made since the original building permit was issued.

If no modifications have been made to the rental unit(s) the same documents, including inspections, can be submitted. If the documents have been misplaced a request by the property owner can be made to retrieve a copy from the City's

Building Department (subject to an administration fee).

At the end we residents of Brampton does not support city's rental license program and request city hall to suspend the program immediately
