Halt Housing Development on Croft Street to Protect Local Wildlife and Increase Green Spaces

The Issue

As a resident of Birkenshaw, I am deeply concerned about the proposed housing development on Croft Street. Our local wildlife is under threat and our green spaces are dwindling. Parks and greenspaces in England deliver an estimated £6.6 billion of health, climate change, and environmental benefits every year. Yet, with 80% of people now living in towns and cities, one third do not have access to good quality green spaces within 15 minutes of their home.

The government’s recent Environmental Improvement Plan includes a commitment that the public should be able to access green space or water such as woodlands, wetlands, parks and rivers. However, this commitment is contradicted by plans for more housing development at the expense of our precious natural environment.

We need to protect what's left of our local wildlife habitats in Birkenshaw before it's too late. We must stop this housing development on Croft Street for the sake of our community's health and wellbeing as well as for the survival of local wildlife species.

Let us stand together against this proposed development that threatens our environment so significantly. Please sign this petition today to show your support for preserving Birkenshaw's natural heritage!
