Halt Harmful Land Development and Preserve Waukesha Neighborhood's Vital Wetlands

The Issue

For many of us living in the Maple Way neighborhood inWaukesha, WI, the prospect of seeing what was once a beautiful wooded lot turn into a monstrous, four-story, 118-unit senior facility is unthinkable. This construction project presents an imminent threat, not just to the picturesque beauty of our neighborhood, but to the valuable wetlands and wildlife that inhabit the area, our safety, and tranquil family living environment.

The hazard we're facing goes beyond aesthetics or an intruded view out of our backyards. The increase in traffic, the disturbance to wildlife habitats and displacement of creatures we share our community with, the potential harm to the delicate balance of the local wetland ecosystems, the turning of a quiet dead end into a bustling facility entrance, and the overall safety concerns are enormous. Wetlands serve crucial purposes such as providing a habitat for wildlife, and absorbing floodwaters. Losing them would equate to losing these invaluable benefits and more.

The development of this massive project significantly jeopardizes the quality of life we've come to enjoy here in Waukesha—a quiet, family-friendly setting that we wish to preserve for generations to come. We firmly believe that there must be other ways to accommodate further development without causing such significant harm to our environment and our community.

Please join us in this call to action to stop this destructive land development located on Summit Avenue, east of Christ the Life Lutheran Church. Our appeal directly targets the city's planning department, Christ the Life church (current land owners), and developers, urging them to reject the proposed project and, instead, prioritize sustainable development in a less residential area that respects both our needs and those of the local ecosystems we share our land with. Your signature can make all the difference in preserving our beloved neighborhood. Please sign this petition today.
