The Issue

Apologies for using AI tool to write this, I struggle a lot with my disabilities, and a symptom is brain fog. This petition is important to me but I struggled with putting it into words. I have fact checked and corrected the below.

Being a part-time wheelchair user, I know the hardships that disability throws at us – especially when it comes to accessing necessary care services. As someone currently struggling, I vehemently believe that the proposal by Labour to further limit PIP qualifying disabilities and Limited Capacity for Work Universal Credit is not the answer, especially in a time of cost living crisis.

Statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions reveal that there are about 13.9 million disabled people in the UK. Limiting their benefits would only lead to increased hardship for millions who are already struggling to meet ends meet. Moreover, the average cost for disability-related expenses is approximately £583 per month, as per Scope UK. A reduction in disability benefits would only exacerbate the situation.

Let us urge Labour to consider the consequences of their proposal from the shoes of a disabled person; to visualize the struggle that goes into every single day when benefits are curtailed. By cutting benefits, they are cutting the lifeline for many disabled people across the UK. Join me in signing this petition; in raising our voice against limiting disability benefits further.
