WE DID IT! Halt EPA's Plan to Dump Toxic Waste from the Palisades Fire in Malibu

The Issue

Thank you to everyone who took the time to sign and support. The EPA has selected the Will Rogers parking lot in the burn area.

As Malibu community members concerned about the health and safety of our loved ones, we must voice our opposition to the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to use our town as a dumping site for toxic waste, residue from the recent Palisades Fire. This decision puts the region's public health and ecosystem at risk. A disturbing reality hit too close to home when we realized the intended disposal site is unsettlingly close to two local elementary schools and adjacent to our Civic Center. This location exposes our children, the most susceptible to harmful toxins, to potential dangers. Simultaneously, school staff, those who provide education and care for our future generations, are equally at stake.

Without intending to denigrate the worthy work the EPA conducts, past events have proven that waste management procedures are not always foolproof, and accidents do occur. When handling hazardous waste, even minor mishaps can evolve into catastrophic contamination - a risk too high for our community.

The World Health Organization acknowledges the harm toxic waste can inflict on human health, including respiratory ailments, neurological damage and, in the most severe cases, potentially lethal conditions like cancer. It is a clear and present danger that directly affects our loved ones, our homes, and our future. We plead with the EPA to reconsider their strategy and find a safer solution that doesn't put our community's health and safety at risk.

The health of our community is non-negotiable. Stand with us in safeguarding the well-being of our town and its inhabitants from the potential threat of toxic exposure. Sign this petition and help us voice opposition to the EPA's current plan.
