Our local community, including our sporting club, has had a deep bond with the rich native wildlife habitat in Lucas Heights, where we have been on this precious land for over half a century, established before the landfill tip. Our responsible occupation and management have contributed significantly to the thriving habitat which harbor's diversely vibrant and endangered animals - from koalas, brown antechinus, kangaroos, wallabies and native birds. In recent times, with great distress, we have been witnessing the disturbance to this ecosystem due to land clearing by Cleanaway. 

Their deplorable actions have directly affected our immediate environment. We have noted an unsettling surge in displaced wildlife seeking refuge on our land, indicating the destruction of their homes. The company's proposed expansion, we fear, would lead to further devastation of the indispensable habitat and result in the tragic loss of endangered flora and fauna. 

A study by the Threatened Species Recovery Hub highlights that habitat loss is the most crucial threat to Australia's biodiversity, with koalas being listed as "endangered" by the Australian Government in 2022. In light of this alarming situation, the prospect of losing any more of our invaluable natural heritage is unthinkable. 

We, therefore, call on all conscientious local, state and federal authorities to step in, end Cleanaway's unsustainable practices and preserve the precious ecology of Lucas Heights. It's time to stand up for our local wildlife, fortify their habitats, and protect our community's bond with these beautiful creatures.
