Halt ArcelorMittal Liberia Implementation of Draconian HR Practice and Human Rights Abuses

Halt ArcelorMittal Liberia Implementation of Draconian HR Practice and Human Rights Abuses
The Issue
ArcelorMittal Liberia, a subsidiary of one of the world's leading steel and mining companies, is reportedly implementing harsh and inhumane human resources policies and practices that are negatively impacting its employees. These policies are seen as draconian and oppressive, causing undue stress and hardship for those who contribute significantly to the company's success.
ArcelorMittal Liberia employs over 2,000 people directly (source: ArcelorMittal Annual Report), many of whom are now living in fear due to bad labor practices. The policies and practices in question lack transparency and fairness, creating an environment where employees feel undervalued and unprotected.
Employees are being denied annual and medical leave, forced to work when sick, while involuntary imprisonment is widely practiced mostly affecting employees residing within its concession areas in Buchanan and Yekepa, Liberia.
In one of these inhumane practices, a staff member lost his sight due to ArcelorMittal Liberia Management specifically, Mr. Marcus Wleh,
Head of Sustainability & External Relations refusal to grant a staff of his department annual or sick leave. This situation resulted to staff losing his sight while at work. Even when staff was blind in right eye, he was forced to do work using computer or risk being dismissed.
We believe that every employee has the right to fair treatment, clear communication about their job roles, reasonable expectations for performance improvement plans if needed, and a safe work environment free from harassment or discrimination. These values should be upheld by all companies operating within Liberia's borders and globally.
By signing this petition, you stand with us against these unfair practices at ArcelorMittal Liberia. We urge the company to reconsider its current approach towards its workforce management strategies. Let us ensure that our voices are heard so we can bring about change for the betterment of all employees at ArcelorMittal Liberia. Please sign this petition today!
