Halt All Bylaw Enforcement Restricting Housing in Nanaimo/RDN and Enact Bill 44

The Issue

The Regional District of Nanaimo is acting against the rights of land owners, landlords and owners of acreages by not allowing them to provide affordable housing. This has resulted in an alarming shortage of rental units and exorbitant rental prices, a blatant disregard for the law - a clear violation of Bill 44.

Bill 44 was enacted to compel cities and municipalities to bolster housing supply, lessen rents and protect tenants. Yet, in Nanaimo, authorities turn a blind eye to this legislative mandate. The prioritization of a handful of NIMBY individuals over mass households is disconcerting and dismissive of the changing times and needs.

It is time to call out this law-breaking behavior openly. It is time we tell our municipalities that we've had enough. We demand an immediate and indefinite halt to all bylaw enforcement related to housing (coach homes, non conforming suites, tiny homes etc.) in the Nanaimo area including both the City of Nanaimo and the RDN. We insist on an immediate increase in housing supply, and a lowered rent across the region, actions in full compliance with Bill 44.

Lend your support to this call for fairness, affordability, and legality in the Nanaimo housing sector. Sign this petition now to show the municipalities that we, their populace, will not stand idle as they act against our best interest and violate the law. Stand up for what's right by signing this petition today!

UPDATE

I have received information that the RDN is trying to skirt past bill 44 all together under the guise of "there isn't enough water." This is a blatant lie meant to protect an old, outdated zoning system that chokes out housing and gives too much power to unelected municipal staffers over property owners! Sign now!

UPDATE***

The RDN is still enforcing old outdated bylaws, not allowing more dwelling units per lot. The very purpose of Bill 44
