The Issue

I grew up in the vibrant community of Pacific Beach, a place where the ocean waves have always carried stories of our past and whispered promises of our future. However, these promises are under threat. The planned 136-unit ADU development project is poised to irrevocably change our beloved community, bringing intense traffic congestion, overcrowding, and, most disturbingly, the potential destruction of a priceless Kumeyaay Indian heritage site.

The Kumeyaay people, indigenous to this region, have a rich history that spans thousands of years. The proposed site for this development is sacred ground, deeply intertwined with their cultural and spiritual heritage. It is not just a plot of land; it is a vital piece of history that speaks of their identity, survival, and connection to the earth. Buried beneath the soil are artifacts and remnants that offer invaluable insights into the culture and traditions of the Kumeyaay people.

This development will not just impact the Kumeyaay's cultural legacy but will also exacerbate existing issues within our community. Our roads are already choked with traffic, our schools are at capacity, and our community services are stretched thin. Introducing an additional 136 units will only intensify these problems, leading to a decrease in our quality of life.

We propose a comprehensive reevaluation of the development plan to identify alternative sites that do not threaten cultural heritage and exacerbate community issues. We believe that with thoughtful planning, developers can meet housing demands while preserving the crucial historical and cultural resources that define our region.

Let us not allow progress to trample on history and community wellbeing. Stand with us to protect the Kumeyaay heritage site and ensure responsible, sustainable development for Pacific Beach's future. Please sign this petition to urge local authorities and developers to halt the proposed project and collaboratively find a solution that respects both our heritage and community needs.
