A DECISION BY THE HADRIAN HEALTHCARE GROUP TO CLOSE THEIR NURSING FACILITY AT THE MANOR HOUSE IN WHICKHAM, WILL DEVASTATE LIVES. PLEASE HELP.
The Hadrian Healthcare Group has built up a strong reputation in four homes within the UK, employing highly skilled and experienced caregivers who deliver exceptional services. These include specialist nursing, respite, and dementia care. They are committed to ensuring that all patients are provided with the highest level of compassionate, quality care. This is reflected in their accreditation of “Outstanding” by the CQC, in all current facilities.
In September 2019, The Manor House in Whickham, Gateshead received an “Outstanding” assessment for care by CQC Inspectors. They were one of the only homes in the area to have achieved this. This success that The Manor House in Whickham has built up over the years, is down to the dedicated and professional team of nursing and support staff. Currently, The Manor House is an integral part of the community in Whickham village.
The ‘Fellside Unit’ on the 2nd Floor of The Manor House in Whickham, is designed to facilitate patients who need the support and assistance of 24-hour nursing care. It is fully equipped with everything necessary for this extremely important purpose. It also provides a very homely environment, perfect for the wellbeing of all residents, going through what is likely their most difficult time of life.
Sadly however, it was recently announced that Hadrian Healthcare Group have decided to close the Fellside Unit in Whickham, due to lack of funding. Therefore, 21 extremely sick and vulnerable patients, most with multiple highly complex medical problems, will be forced to relocate before Christmas. Some patients, particularly those with brain damage and mental health problems, have lived on the Fellside Unit for many years. They feel very secure and comfortable in this familiar environment. Needless-to-say, the families of these patients are devastated and extremely worried about having to relocate their loved ones, as the high level of care on the Fellside Unit is second-to-none. Without the amazing, round- the-clock-care from the nursing team, most of the residents wouldn’t be here today. In addition, due to the lack of nursing care facilities within the area, some patients could even be forced to move further afield, making it extremely difficult for their families to visit them.
The closure of the Fellside Unit will be devastating for all involved. This of course extends well beyond the residents and families. The team, some of whom have worked on the Fellside unit for over 15 years, will be made redundant before Christmas, with all achievements down to their sheer hard work and dedication, erased!
What has been created at The Manor House in Whickham, and particularly on the Fellside Unit, is a “family.” The move to close the Unit will break apart this family and devastate the lives of all involved. Our hearts go out to every person affected by this decision.
The Hadrian Healthcare Group have rightfully moulded their entire business model around “care and compassion.” We strongly urge them to demonstrate this “care and compassion” and to rethink their decision on closing the Fellside Unit. As we all know, rule number 1 in business is to remove emotion. But in this instance, we fail to see how this rule can be applied, being that lives are at stake.
