Dalston East ward residents are calling on Hackney Council to take measures to make the roads in the area safer!

There are major road dangers and traffic issues in the Sandringham Road, St. Mark's Rise and Cecilia Road area:

  • There are several road danger hotspots. There have been multiple incidents with cars, often speeding, specifically at the Sandringham Road / St. Mark's Rise junction, as well as the Sandringham Road / Cecilia Road junction, every year. Crash Map shows the data up to 2020, and there have been many more incidents in the area since then, including two serious crashes in 2021.
  • There are many schools and nurseries in the area, whose students need much safer streets for walking and cycling. These include Colvestone, Shacklewell, and Halley House primaries, the Hackney Ark, Mossbourne Academy and Petchey Academy secondaries, and Kingsland, Independent Place, Bathhouse and Chatterbees nurseries.
  • Speeding is a well-known problem on Sandringham Road, St. Mark's Rise and Cecilia Road, and high-volume, high-speed traffic is now also severely affecting many other residential roads and juntions.

We call on Hackney Council to take urgent action to make our streets safer and healthier. Hackney Council, act now to create a Dalston East Low Traffic Neighbourhood! Install school streets for our local schools, and make the surrounding roads much safer and less congested with more bus lanes, pedestrian crossings and safer junctions and road user charging.
