H-E-B: Stop Selling Eggs from Hens Crammed into Cruel Cages

The Issue

They say “everything’s bigger in Texas," and that unfortunately includes animal abuse at Texas-based supermarket chain H-E-B. While a growing number of companies have committed to selling 100 percent cage-free eggs, H-E-B continues to cram countless birds into cruel cages.

Caged egg production is widely considered one of the most egregious forms of animal abuse.

Hens are stuffed into wire cages so small the birds can’t walk, fully spread their wings, or engage in other natural behaviors for nearly their entire lives. Many birds become trapped and painfully mangled in cage wire or under feed trays and often suffer and die. Dead hens are left to rot alongside birds still laying eggs for human consumption.

Competitors of H-E-B, including Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, ALDI, Food Lion, Giant, Stop & Shop, Costco, Target, and CVS, have already made public commitments to eliminating cages. It’s high time H-E-B also adopted a cage-free policy for all eggs sold in its stores.

Please sign this petition telling H-E-B to adopt a 100 percent cage-free egg policy, including an aggressive phase-in timeline, for all eggs sold in its stores and affiliate locations in the U.S. and Mexico.
