KEEP IN MIND THIS PETITION IS FOR THE REVERSAL OF THE QUARTER POLICY! THIS IS NOT FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE BELOVED BLOCK-BASED SCHEDULE WE HAVE!

This petition was started less than 48 hours ago and we've surpassed the 1,000 signatures mark. Shout out to those of you who shared this around and to those of you who had the courage to convince some staff members to join us. As mentioned before, Gwinnett has a tendency to ignore problems with a small base supporting it. In order to counteract this, it would be beneficial for us to share this around as much as possible and get as many parents and faculty members as possible. Our goal is not to get rid of the quarter system AND block-based schedule but rather have us revert to our old system WITH the block schedule. Although some people are against this petition, that’s okay. Advocating for change is much better than sitting around and doing nothing. 

Here is why this petition is so important: the quarter system can and is likely to cause the failure of the block-based scheduling system. Although the quarter system doesn't affect those of us who've passed our classes, this threatens the stability of the block-based scheduling system that allows us to take 4 classes a day and not have as much stress during the school-year.

Think about it like this: Person A failed the first half of a 1 semester course and now is missing .5 credits. Person A now has to finish the class for the rest of the .5 credits. Regardless of if they pass or fail, Person A has to retake the class. Person A can slack off either half of the class (that they're retaking) because they only need another .5 credits. If a large chunk of students do this, Gwinnett will most likely reconsider block-based scheduling and the quarter system because clearly it's not working. For freshmen now entering high school, they're being introduced to a whole new environment. It's fairly common for freshmen to struggle during the start of the school year but get back later during 1st semester. Under the quarter system, these freshmen have their grades posted 2 months into their high school career.
