Gunnedah Council want to reduce the Summer opening hours of the pool, meaning it would close at 7 pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

Previous summers the pool was open until at least 8pm

THE POOL SHOULD REMAIN OPEN UNTIL AT LEAST 8pm

BECAUSE,

1 In Summer many families take advantage of the cooler part of the day, enjoying a picnic or meal at the pool whilst young children delight in the splash pad, older children swimming and using the diving board, others swimming laps after a day of work. All of this will be destroyed if the council is allowed to reduce the summer opening hours.

2 Gunnedah has a particularly hot climate, about 30% of the summer days reach a maximum in excess of 38 C. These days are still very hot at the time the pool will be shut.

3 The Cancer council recommends to avoid sun exposure in the heat of the day, yet closing the pool earlier will encourage more use in times of dangerous sun exposure.

4 The pool is a very safe environment for all members of the community, restricting its availability will encourage residents to seek out other places to swim, such as rivers and dams. These are inherently far more dangerous.

5 The ratepayers recently spent in excess of 10 million dollars on the complex, they deserve to have the pool remain open until at least 8 pm

SO,

IF YOU WANT THE POOL TO REMAIN OPEN TILL AT LEAST  8PM PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION.
