The Issue

In our community, stray dogs have played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents. These dogs have been our guardians during the night, alerting us to potential threats when other security measures, such as street guards and CCTV, have failed. Notably, they have protected numerous individuals, especially girls, from harm by barking to deter intoxicated individuals, and have thwarted theft attempts and chain snatching incidents, thereby reducing crime significantly in our area.

While we acknowledge the tragic incidents involving rabies and dog bites that have claimed the lives of innocents, it's imperative to differentiate between the actions of a few and the nature of all stray dogs. Instead of vilifying these animals, we advocate for their rehabilitation and treatment, allowing them to live harmoniously within our society. Stray dogs deserve compassion and support for the invaluable service they provide, not condemnation.

However, if we are truly committed to the betterment of our society, a more pressing issue needs attention. Residential drinking hubs pose a significant threat to our communities, leading to increased incidents of nuisance and harm caused by individuals under the influence. By focusing on removing these drinking establishments from residential areas, we can create a safer environment for all residents, including our four-legged guardians.

We call upon Rekha mam and the esteemed judges of the Supreme Court to address this issue urgently. Removing drinking hubs from residential neighborhoods will not only decrease the vulnerability to crime and disturbances but will also ensure that communities remain safe and respectful places for everyone to live.

Blanket removal and confinement of all stray dogs in shelters is a fundamentally flawed approach that disregards the vital role these animals play in our urban ecosystem and society. Such indiscriminate actions fail to recognize that not all stray dogs pose a threat; many act as natural guardians, deterring crime and maintaining balance within communities. Capturing and relocating them en masse leads to overcrowded, under-resourced shelters where the animals suffer from neglect, stress, and poor health conditions. Moreover, this approach ignores the root causes of the stray dog population, such as irresponsible pet ownership, lack of sterilization, and inadequate community awareness. Removing dogs without humane population control and public education merely shifts the problem elsewhere, potentially exacerbating conflicts and increasing the risk of disease transmission like rabies. True compassion and public safety can only be achieved through balanced, scientifically informed strategies that respect animal welfare, promote coexistence, and address underlying issues rather than resorting to mass displacement that punishes innocent guardians of our society.

Please sign this petition to show your support for a safer, more harmonious society, where both people and animals can coexist peacefully.
