Hello everyone,
Six months since our last update, and finally - FINALLY - the planning meeting for the skate park is set to go ahead. Next week to be precise, September 6th, 6.30pm at Woolwich Town Hall.
Why has it taken six months to get the skate park on a Planning Meeting agenda? Good question, I wish I knew. But we've got a date now, so what happens next?
Well, myself and Andy will be brushing our hair, combing our teeth, and ambling over to the Town Hall on the 6th, in plenty of time so as to get a good seat. And we'd like to encourage lots of you to do the same! The meeting is open to the public (that's you) and there are also opportunities for people to say a few short words on the proposal before the assembled Councillors put it to the vote.
We're expecting a large number of people who are opposed to the skate park to turn up and speak out. Some people have spent literally months plotting against a skate park in Charlton Park, and they'll be doing their utmost to get as many angry voices in the Town Hall as possible. Some Councillors will have made their minds up already on the proposal, some will be swayed only by the evidence in front of them, but some will be swayed by public opinion, and we need to ensure pro-skate park voices are heard.
So, if you can attend on Tuesday, please do. If you can be prepared to stand up and say a few words then that is fantastic. Not everyone will get a chance to speak, but if lots of us are ready to then that's great. If you do get a chance to say a few words, then the same suggested guidelines from our last update still stand; be polite, explain why a skate park is beneficial to you and the community and, assuming you are a local resident, make sure you make that clear.
So that's it from us. Next week the skate park will either be a huge step closer to being built, or it will be dead in the water. Thanks again to all of you who signed this petition, it has been used many times by the Council to prove there is support for a skate park in the face of some rather mean-spirited opposition.
We hope to see many of you there on Tuesday,
Paul and Andy
