Allow chickens in Greenfield, IN city limits

The Issue

We are kindly requesting that the City of Greenfield revise the current chicken ordinance to allow residents to keep chickens (specifically hens) responsibly within city limits.

The current code of ordinance in Greenfield, IN makes it illegal to have chickens within the city limits. Chickens are a great animal and resource for a family to have. They teach kids responsibility, they provide eggs to eat, and they cause no problems. Chickens are less of a disturbance than almost every other domesticated animal.

I have had chickens for a little while now. Animal management recieved a complaint and informed me that I needed to remove them from my property within the next 30 days. My chickens have not caused any problems. The coop is clean. They make no noise. They stay in their coop. Unless you were on my property or looking for something to complain about, you would not even know I owned chickens. However, since the current ordinance in Greenfield does not allow chickens within city limits and one person complained, I have to get rid of my chickens.

I am starting this petition to get this code of ordinance changed. Chickens are great for families to have and cause no problems to the streets, neighborhoods, and community we live in.
