As a student at Green Hope High School, with the largest graduating class in Wake County (730 students), I understand the difficulty of trying to schedule a graduation around the new COVID guidelines. There is however, a way that maintains the social distancing guidelines, but will give students at Green Hope a graduation. The dimensions of the football field, including the track, are roughly 350ft x 200ft. When you do the math of spacing each student 6ft apart, you are able to have around 58 rows with 33 students per row. This provides space not only for all 730 students, but for each student to bring 2 parents with them (because parents can sit next to each other). Instead of walking up to collect a diploma, the Principal could announce our names one by one, and we stand for applause. There is no reason that we as seniors shouldn’t have a traditional graduation, when there are clear ways that one can be hosted. We have worked for over 12 years for this monumental moment in our lives, we should not let it be taken away because of some roadblocks!!
