Grant US States the Right to Secede and Form Independent Nations

Grant US States the Right to Secede and Form Independent Nations
The Issue
As a citizen deeply invested in the principles of self-determination, I believe it is time we reconsider our understanding of statehood. The United States was founded on the principle of independence from Great Britain, a testament to our nation's commitment to self-governance. In that spirit, this petition proposes granting US states the right to secede and form independent nations.
The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution reserves powers not delegated to the federal government for the states or people. However, there is no explicit provision allowing states to secede from the Union. This absence has led many legal scholars and political scientists into debates about whether or not such an action would be constitutional.
In 1869, following Civil War tensions around this issue, Supreme Court case Texas v. White ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional while leaving open possibility for revolution or consent of other states (Source: Cornell Law School). Yet today's context is different; we are not at war with ourselves but seeking ways for peaceful coexistence despite deep ideological differences.
This petition does not advocate for any particular state's secession but rather seeks recognition of their right to do so if they choose. It calls upon Congress and all relevant authorities within our government system to consider this proposal seriously as a means towards preserving unity through respect for diversity.
Please sign this petition if you believe in each state’s right towards self-determination and independence should they choose it.
