This year we are finally faced with another general election and it's more important than ever that we hold our politicians to account for the 'promises' they are currently making us.
Even if you don't follow politics you must be aware that more often than not politicians let us down with regard to adhering to their own manifesto's.
With a general election coming, now is the time to make sure that we get a government that we deserve.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but please consider that if you don't sign this petition you are admitting that you don't really care whether our government deliver on their promises. Also that it is alright for them to continue to waste millions of pounds, that we have collectively donated in the form of taxes paid, with absolutely no recriminations.
We need to make them far more accountable.
With this in mind, my idea is that we have a peoples charter (a more detailed manifesto that is completely transparent and available for all to see), whereby any prospective government has to issue a written statement that covers their prospective manifesto, with timescales and costs and then they have to comply by said manifesto, including timescales given and costs, once they govern or they waive the right to govern.
I appreciate that there will always be unforeseen reasons why certain commitments can't be adhered to within given timescales i.e. outbreak of war, global pandemic etc. so for this reason I suggest that as when we were living through the pandemic, the prime minister or a representative from the government, update the public once a quarter, on the current state of play with regard to their manifesto and give any reasons why they can no longer commit to any part thereof. Obviously they can also use this opportunity to promote all progress made on the parts of their manifesto that are going well.
They will be given every possibility to justify progress or lack thereof.
If no convincing reason is given for non commitment, slipping timescales or costs, we the people via the opposition parties will have the right to hold the government to account by taking a peoples vote of no confidence and requesting that the government step down.
Any good company has the right to sack it's directors for lack of performance and the people of the British Isles deserve the same rights with regard to the management of UK PLC.
