GRANT SOMALILAND INDEPENDANCE!!

GRANT SOMALILAND INDEPENDANCE!!
The Issue
Unfortunately, Somaliland is not a country but an independent state that Somalia has no authority over. However Somaliland is not internationally recognised and considered a state even though it has its own government, currency, passport, military, capital (named Hargeisa) and a high population of 18.1 million. Somaliland borders Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia and Somaliland's port of Berbera, on the other side of the Gulf of Aden there is Yemen (Middle East).

History of Somaliland
Somaliland has been a distinct region from Somalia since the late 1800s. It was a British protectorate and British Somaliland had became independent from the British on 26 June 1960. It then became independent for just five days, it merged with present-day Somalia, which was then under Italian rule to form the Somali Republic (Somalia) on 1 July 1960.
After Somaliland had joined Somalia to form Somali Republic everything was fine until the Somali President Sharmarke was assassinated by a government policeman in the town of Laascaanood located in Somaliland on October 15, 1969. Prime Minister Maxamed Xaaji Ibrahim Cigaal was deposed in a military coup led by General Mohammed Siad Barre on October 21, 1969.
Siad Barre had bombed northern Somalia (Somaliland) between 1987 and 1989, the Somali dictator had massacred an estimated 200,000 people of the Isaaq tribe. The destruction of Hargeisa in Somaliland was so shocking it was nicknamed "the Dresden of Africa” or "Isaaq genocide".
A group called the Somali National Movement emerged in the 1980s.
In 1991, they had declared Somaliland’s independence following the ousting of Siad Barre dictatorship and brutal killings, whose forces had killed tens of thousands of people during the civil war, the SNM declared the city of Hargeisa as the capital of Somaliland, although it remains internationally unrecognised to this day and has managed to rebuild itself.

My family was able to flee the war while others we not so lucky from someone who is from Somaliland it would be my dream for my nation to be recognised as a country instead of a state. I would be glad if you we able to sign the petition to get Somaliland one step closer to being an independent nation. Thank you for reading this far and make sure you have a great day ❤️❤️
