Grant S5 students at Hamilton Grammar exclusive access to their own toilets
The Issue
I'm part of the S5 year group at Hamilton Grammar School in Scotland, and we're facing a big issue that's affecting our daily school life. Every day, during breaks or between classes, we find ourselves queuing for, or avoiding, the regular toilets due to constant flooding and unhygienic conditions left by younger students, mainly those from S4 and below. It's frustrating and inconvenient, leading to an uncomfortable school experience for many of us.
The S6 year group already has designated toilets. We believe it's only fair and just that S5 students also have access to a designated set of facilities - namely, the toilets at Door 1. Our need for this is based on maintaining health and hygiene standards and ensuring all students have the ability to focus on their education without unnecessary discomfort.
Beyond comfort, there's a safety aspect. When toilets are flooded or overcrowded, the chances of accidents, slip hazards, and potential for further vandalization increase dramatically. By granting us access to the yellow toilets, the school can manage resources better, directing necessary maintenance efforts more strategically while reducing the overall wear and tear on existing facilities.
We propose this change because it can serve as a controlled solution to segregate usage based on responsibility and respect for school property. When spaces are designated clearly, there's often less inclination to leave them mistreated.
Please consider the importance of this request, not only for the benefit it brings to one year group but also for the overall improvement and upkeep of our school's facilities. Sign this petition to show your support for a more organized and healthier school environment.
