The Issue

3rd and FINAL APPEAL: DATARAN CONVENT SEREMBAN

Grant recognition of Convent Seremban (CHIJ) for nation-building via educational excellence.

Why:

1.    To celebrate the past with gratitude and acknowledge the contribution of those who provide educational excellence for a progressive local community and the nation.

2.    To serve as an important reminder that good education is vital for all levels of society regardless of race, religion, or social status.

3.    To have a renewed mindset and embark on more meaningful community activities for all citizens.

4.    To inculcate a renewed sense of respect and appreciation for history, culture, and community especially for the generations to come.

5.    To create a platform/area that is central for NGOs / Government bodies to promote healthy nation-building activities. A vibrant city of beautiful heritage that we are proud of; that will attract locals and tourists alike.

6.    To celebrate Convent Seremban students, teachers, and staff before we all become extinct! As a point of reference, a student who graduated in 1994 (last batch) would be 47 years of age in 2024. Therefore, this will be our 3rd and final appeal on behalf of all Convent Girls who can relate to our heartfelt appeal.

How:

1.    Rename Dataran Seremban to *Dataran Convent Seremban

2.    Form a Working Committee (WC) to table ideas, formulate clear strategies, and agree on an implementation timeline.

3.    Based on the WC recommendations, upgrade the park facilities to promote this heritage site for Tourism and community activities such as picnics, movie nights, charity/fundraising, cultural, fitness, and educational activities (mobile library, art competitions, and handicrafts to name a few). A calendar of events formulated and supported by the state inclusive of NGOs is a commitment to our community’s well-being.

4.    Introduce and actively promote focused activities related to *The Convent 3C Campaign (Compassion, Courtesy, and Creativity). Specific campaigns that can be measured and that will bring about systematic change for the community and nation. The support and direct involvement of Government bodies and NGOs will enable a more inclusive approach to alleviate some of the social issues being faced.

When:

1.    To have the official launch on 3rd October 2024 to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Convent Seremban (1904 – 2024).

2.    Upgrading works for the park should preferably commence in January 2024.

DATARAN CONVENT SEREMBAN (HEART OF GRATITUDE PLAQUE)

OUR HEARTFELT GRATITUDE

The Holy Infant Jesus Convent (CHIJ), Seremban established by the six IJ Sisters; Mother St. Camille, Sisters Sabine, Jean, Columbar, Marc, and Leontine on the 3rd of October 1904, was the first PREMIER ENGLISH SCHOOL for girls in Seremban.
