The issue

We are calling on the Honourable Tony Burke to urgently intervene and provide permanent residency, or a clear pathway to citizenship, for Mary and Joseph and their family.

Mary and Joseph have lived in Australia for the past 18 years. During this time, they have built a stable, meaningful life and contributed positively to the Australian community. They are raising three children, all born in Australia. Two of their children, Hannah and Dinah, are Australian citizens, and all three children have grown up fully immersed in Australian culture. English is the only language they speak, and Australia is the only home they have ever known.

Joseph has been a hardworking, tax-paying member of society for 18 years and has dedicated the last 7 years to working as an Aged Care Assistant. His role is vital, supporting elderly Australians with compassion, dignity, and care.

Mary is a Family Day Care Early Childhood Educator for last 6 years who has positively impacted the lives of many young children and families. Her work supports early learning and helps parents participate in the workforce.

This family is deeply integrated into their community. They have built strong relationships and live by values of service, kindness, and faith. Their contributions are meaningful and ongoing.

Despite this, Mary and Joseph face an uncertain immigration status. The possibility of being forced to leave Australia would be devastating. It would uproot their children from their home, disrupt their education, and cause significant emotional distress.

Australia prides itself on fairness, compassion, and valuing those who contribute to society. Granting this family’s  the opportunity to stay would reflect those values and ensure the well-being of children who are already part of the Australian community.

We urge Minister Tony Burke to use his discretionary powers to allow Mary and Joseph and their children to remain in Australia permanently.

Sign this petition to support fairness, compassion, and the future of this family.
