Grant Non-Residents Right to Kayak Fishing in Lake Mahopac

Grant Non-Residents Right to Kayak Fishing in Lake Mahopac
The Issue
We are an impassioned community of kayak anglers who respect and enjoy the beauty of our local waters. For many years, we've used the serene setting of Mahopac, a public lake, to fish. Recently, however, this activity has been restricted to local inhabitants, disregarding the fact that this lake, being a public body of water, should be available to everyone.
This exclusion of non-residents is not only a disappointment for numerous keen anglers, but it also holds economic repercussions. Allowing non-residential anglers to fish in our waters can generate significant revenue for the town, a crucial factor that has been overlooked in the recent decisions.
Moreover, the inability of local marinas to provide convenient parking spaces and their limited operating hours - 9 to 5 - pose additional challenges. Anglers often prefer to cast their lines from dusk until dawn when fishing conditions are at their best. These complications are needless deterrents to the enjoyment of an activity that inherently respects and appreciates the natural beauty of our environment.
We are not asking for special favors but for an equal right to enjoy the public spaces our great nation provides. It seems unjust to prohibit non-residential anglers from accessing this public lake, impacting the shared principle of equality that is enshrined in our constitution.
In light of the above, we call on the relevant authorities in Mahopac, NY, USA to revisit their current prohibitions and grant non-residents the right to partake in our shared love of kayak fishing. Sign this petition to support us in our effort to reestablish fishing for all, regardless of residential status. Your support can make a significant difference.
