Jersey has run its own football association since 1905, fields its own national team, and has every footballing infrastructure a UEFA member needs — except a seat at the table. We're asking UEFA to admit the Jersey Football Association (JFA) as a full member, giving Jersey's players and fans the chance to compete on the international stage that islands like Gibraltar and Kosovo already enjoy.

For over a century, the Jersey Football Association has operated as a fully independent footballing body — running its own leagues, cup competitions, coaching pathways, and a national team that has represented the island since 1905. Yet Jersey remains locked out of UEFA, the very organisation that governs the sport across our continent.

Jersey is not asking for special treatment. We're asking UEFA to apply the same standard it has already applied to other non-sovereign territories:

Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, was admitted to UEFA in 2013 after its own legal battle, and has gone on to compete in European Championship and World Cup qualifying.

Kosovo was admitted in 2016 despite limited international recognition of its sovereignty, on the basis of its footballing independence and infrastructure.

The Faroe Islands, a self-governing territory within Denmark, have been full UEFA members since 1990.

Jersey's case is, if anything, stronger on footballing grounds: the JFA has run autonomous domestic competitions for over 100 years, fields full representative teams across multiple age groups, and has produced professional players who have gone on to represent England and play in the Football League.

In 2017, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that UEFA was obligated to bring Jersey's application to a full Congress vote — a clear signal that Jersey's case had legal merit. While the 2018 Congress vote did not succeed, the underlying arguments for Jersey's footballing independence have not changed, and Jersey continues to pursue this path.

We are calling on UEFA to:

Formally reconsider Jersey's membership application on its footballing merits, not solely on questions of full political sovereignty.

Apply a consistent standard across all member applications, as already extended to Gibraltar, Kosovo, and the Faroe Islands.

Give Jersey's footballers — amateur and professional alike — a genuine pathway to international competition.

Jersey's 100,000 residents deserve the chance to see their island compete on the European stage. We ask UEFA's member associations to vote in favour of Jersey's membership the next time this comes before Congress.
