Grant Freedom for Kpop Idols to Date and Express Themselves

The Issue

This petition stems from a deeply personal concern. Many Kpop idols are suffering from depression and anxiety, sometimes to the point of contemplating suicide. The rigidity of their contracts often denies them the freedom to date or express themselves openly, causing significant emotional distress.

In South Korea's booming Kpop industry, idols are often subjected to 'no dating' clauses in their contracts as companies believe that their single status makes them more appealing to fans. This can lead to severe isolation and loneliness. According to a study by the Korean Society for Suicide Prevention (2019), suicide rates among entertainers in South Korea have been significantly higher than other professions.

Furthermore, these idols are frequently silenced when they attempt to voice out about their struggles due to fear of backlash or termination of contract. A survey conducted by the Korean Entertainment Management Association (2018) revealed that 62% of respondents felt they could not speak freely about issues affecting them.

We believe it is time for change - time for these talented individuals who bring joy through music and dance, be granted the freedom they deserve; freedom not just as artists but as humans too. We call on entertainment companies across South Korea's music industry - let our beloved Kpop idols date if they wish so, let them have their own voice without fear.

Please sign this petition today and help us advocate for better mental health support and personal freedoms within South Korea's entertainment industry.
