Grant Dominique Wright a Chance at Life Outside of Prison

Grant Dominique Wright a Chance at Life Outside of Prison
The Issue
This petition is a plea for a second chance at life outside of prison for Dominique A. Wright #F57532, a man who has demonstrated that the correctional system can indeed work in rehabilitating individuals. He is a great father, son, husband and friend, who was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole and has unfortunately spent over half his life behind bars. Despite this, he has become a beacon of reform and has so much to offer the world.
Although Dominique was 18 years old when he committed his controlling offense, he was considered an adult, and while he takes full responsibility for his actions, statistics and science has shown that a person under the age of 26 brain is not fully developed to make rational decisions. Think of all the things you may have done under 26, now combine that with someone who had adverse childhood experiences. Lack of guidance and support. You get someone who can commit a crime. By taking full responsibility, he has taken his rehabilitation very serious.
People make mistakes, but with the right corrective behavior, they can become productive members of society. This is not just a statement, but a fact backed by research. A study by the National Institute of Justice shows that released prisoners with the lowest re-arrest rates were those who participated in work programs or vocational training while in prison.
During his time of incarceration, Dominique has dedicated himself to personal growth and transformation. He has actively assisted others in their journeys toward reform, demonstrating profound change in his own life. Through faith and participation in various self-help programs, he has found solace and purpose. Additionally, he has earned a college degree in sociology and behavioral science, reflecting his commitment to education and understanding human behavior.
Our society tends to stigmatize prisoners & ex-prisoners, but we must remember that they are humans capable of change. We need more empathy, compassion, and understanding, especially when dealing with those we as a society see as youth offenders. We need to acknowledge the potential for rehabilitation and grant second chances to those who prove deserving. This is the only way for men serving life without the possibility of parole a chance at freedom and to prove the justice system works in rehabilitation.
We implore the governor of California, Gavin Newsom to consider this plea. Allow Dominique Wright, and others like him who have shown incredible resilience and willingness to change, a chance at a new life outside prison walls. Show that our justice system believes in second chances. Please sign this petition and support second chances, support life after rehabilitation.
