We, the undersigned, urgently request the immediate release or a sentence reduction for Dennis Dinwiddie (Reg. No. 07504-033). Dennis has served 20 years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for a conspiracy-related crime involving the distribution of marijuana. In today’s legal and social landscape, these same offenses would likely result in a significantly lower sentence. We believe Dennis has demonstrated extraordinary post-sentencing rehabilitation and that his continued incarceration serves no further punitive purpose.
Why This Matters:
Dennis Dinwiddie entered the federal prison system two decades ago as a young man who, by his own admission, did not understand the gravity of his actions. Today, at 48 years old, he is a transformed leader, a devoted son, a father of 3, a loving grandfather, and a vital mentor. Although he was sentenced to a life term using an enhanced sentencing scheme for a crime of which he was not convicted—and involving a substance that is now legal in many parts of the United States—he has spent his time wisely. In 20 years, Dennis has had no major disciplinary infractions or acts of violence. His journey has been defined not by his crime, but by his commitment to rehabilitation and personal accountability.

Dennis has turned his incarceration into a period of service. As a prison companion, he provides essential care for the elderly. As a mentor, he works to change the mindsets of young men, steering them away from gangs and drugs. To his daughters, grandchildren, and the youth in his family, he is a lifeline of wisdom, stressing the importance of education and the long-term impact of one’s decisions.
Extraordinary and Compelling Need at Home:
Dennis is desperately needed by his family for reasons that go beyond emotional support. His elderly parents are facing declining health, and Dennis is prepared to provide the strong support system they require. Furthermore, he is ready to launch a career in youth mentorship. He has already established connections with mentorship programs and is prepared to implement the "Anatomy of Peace" curriculum to help at-risk youth avoid the path he once took, partnering with organizations such as the National Mentoring Resource Center, Mentoring.org, and Specialized Mentoring Networks as well as other Mentoring groups.
The Request:
Dennis Dinwiddie has paid his debt to society. He has evolved from a "manipulator" into a leader. Keeping a man of his character and proven rehabilitation incarcerated serves no further punitive or rehabilitative purpose. We ask that you recognize his 20 years of perfect conduct, his deep remorse, and his potential to heal his community. Please grant Dennis Dinwiddie the opportunity to come home to help care for his parents and be the son, father, and grandfather he looks forward to being—a leader and mentor doing his part to save the next generation.
