Thirty years is a long time. It's a lifetime. It's more than many of us can fathom, especially when we've spent it behind bars. For Orlando Rivera, this has been his reality. I am writing today to share his story and implore Governor and the Prisoner Review Board to exercise compassion by reviewing Orlando's case and granting clemency.

Orlando has spent over 30 years incarcerated, a period marked not only by enduring one of the harshest punitive systems but also by a journey of personal transformation and resilience. Wrongfully incarcerated, Orlando represents a number of individuals unjustly caught within the legal system, yet who manage to rise above their circumstances. Despite the challenges, he has worked tirelessly to better himself mentally and spiritually, showing that he is much more than the person he was when first incarcerated.

Orlando’s long journey towards betterment is not a plea for sympathy but a testament to his strength and commitment to change. During his decades in prison, he has participated in numerous rehabilitation programs, obtained skills that equip him for a productive life outside, and has maintained good behavior—all indicators of his readiness to reintegrate into society as a contributing member.

His case warrants attention not just because of the unfairness surrounding his initial conviction, but also because of who he has become—a rehabilitated man ready to use his experience to help other at-risk individuals develop away from crime and toward community service.

The Governor and the Prisoner Review Board have the unique opportunity to correct an injustice and reunite a family. By granting clemency to Orlando Rivera, you offer hope to all those who challenge the stigma of incarceration by proving they can transform their lives.

It’s time to right a wrong and give Orlando Rivera the chance to contribute positively to society. Please lend your voice to this cause and help Orlando’s story be one of individual triumph and systemic change. Sign this petition today to join me in calling for justice and compassion that Orlando deserves.
