After watching Killing Eve last night I decided to watch news at ten before doing some research and planning for meetings this week. The news came  on and what do you know, 2nd headline? Yep you’ve guessed right air pollution; my evening was ruined as I know it can’t be anything positive, It’s like Groundhog Day but this is not a film it is far worse as its about people’s lives. The Government has finally come out and admitted what everyone has been saying continuously for the past two years that the air we are all breathing is toxic. Worst still the Government is not going to meet its original target of 2021 to clean up the air. My heavy heart sank even further it will now take them a further 7 years not until 2028. At this stage I do not believe a word they say as they have not shown any leadership in dealing with this crisis, does it sound all too familiar? It is absolutely appalling as we continue to inhale nitrogen dioxide. Currently the levels are set by the EU and I have enormous concerns as the UK is set to leave the EU in March 2019, who is going to scrutinise and hold the Government to account in future? Who is going to set the new levels? We do not meet those set by the World Health Organisation either. I will continue to remind the public just because the EU has set a limit it does not mean that it is safe for everyone eg. children and the elderly with respiratory illnesses will still have to fight to breath. After watching the news it occurred to me to post the film the BBC made about Ella which was shown on News at ten on July 3, during the World Cup, I can’t believe it was that long ago. I will leave you all draw your own conclusion.

I feel I have to do something as both Government and local councils must work together to sort out the health crisis which is upon us. Instead what are the powers that be doing according to the news tonight? Playing the blame game, My plea to them would be to stop playing Russian Roulette with our lives. For us sadly it has come far too late in just over a 2 months we will be spending another Christmas without Ella Roberta.
